Why we say that›

Congo Basin reel exaggerates unmapped interior and invents 2017 drone clearings plus 2012 chimp discovery.

The second-largest rainforest status holds. Every other central claim about unmapped areas, sterile clearings, uncontacted tribe counts, drone footage and upright chimps rests on zero sources or is directly contradicted by a 1999 expedition. The through-line leaps from these gaps to a picture of permanent mystery and danger.

How it's framed (4)›
Angry wording - Uses 'completely unknown', 'permanent twilight', 'impossible', 'bizarre' to build dread.
Appeal to fear - Hallucinations, heavy spores, unknown primates and uncontacted tribes presented as hidden dangers.
Selective presentation - Unverified expedition stories and 2017 drone claims shown without sources or counter-evidence.
Images used to persuade - Satellite map with red/green highlights, spooky cartoon figure, barren clearing labeled 'nothing grows there'.
